How To Turbocharge Your Sport Coaching Career Over The Next 90 Days
This may come as a surprise to you, but frustration in sport coaching is very common.
No, you're not alone when you feel that pit in your stomach and you worry whether you'll ever get your program winning on a consistent basis.
If you're like me or anyone else who has tried his or her hand at coaching, you'll at some point find yourself dealing with a team that just isn't living up to your expectations. You felt all the pieces were there for a great team, a great season; but now you find that you and your players can't seem to get a lead, let alone a win.
Not exactly what you expected when you decided to get into sport coaching , is it? So what do you do now? Read on as we discuss what can be done at this point.
Since every situation has its own dynamics, there's no way for me to give you a "one size fits all" type of solution. I don't want to get too spiritual here, but I'm going to show you that everything you need to fix your sport coaching challenges is already possessed by you. Let's begin with a quote from a fantastic book called, "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind", by Dr. Joseph Murphy:
"Within your subconscious depths lie infinite wisdom, infinite power and infinite supply of all that is necessary, which is waiting for development and expression."
If the above quote is true (and I believe it is), then all you need to do in order to turn your sport coaching career around is to pull this "infinite power and wisdom" out of yourself and you're on your way. I can already hear you groaning... "C'mon, what are you talking about, this is getting too deep; I just want to start showing my players how to win, not get all 'out there' on them."
Don't worry. There's nothing "out there" about what I'm about to show you. It's very simple. The solution to any sport coaching slump is to begin asking yourself questions. This exercise taps into your subconscious power and begins to give you all the answers you need.
For example, start asking yourself questions like this: "What am I doing that is causing this? What am I not doing? What changes need to be made? What can I do? Who can I get to help me out? What do they need to do in order to help me?"
Starting to get the idea? Do you see how I can't give you specific answers to your personal sport coaching problems and issues? But I can get you started along the right path. I can empower you to find the answers within yourself. Only you know enough about your situation and your team to come to the realization of what they and you need in order to turn things around.
Beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel? Outstanding! Allow me to give you a few more questioning examples. How about digging deeper and asking yourself things such as, "Do I need to be better at communicating the goal and objectives for the team? Do the players need to be better fundamentally? Or do they have the skills but are lacking in confidence?"
Can you see where if you continue along these lines you'll eventually be able to solve your sport coaching challenges and give your players the solid leader they're yearning for? Too many coaches get frustrated and ask all the wrong questions.
If you ask of yourself, "Why am I such a terrible coach?", you'll get the right answer. But if you stay positive and ask, "What can I do to fix this?", once again you'll get the right answer. Quality questions result in quality answers, which in turn result in quality solutions.
"Some men see things as they are, and say, 'Why?' I dream of things that never were, and say, 'Why not?' " - George Bernard Shaw
Empower yourself and your players with empowering words and questions. Then, implement the changes these questions inspire over a 90 day period, and watch the magical transformation you and your team make.
I like the idea of what empowering words and language can make on a person so much that I just may revisit that idea in a future article for our "Tips" Newsletter, so stay tuned.
