Football Practice Drills and Plays

Objective of Drill: To become a better running back and how to learn to tackle better.

Action of Drill: You get 4 sets of 2 cones and you place them 10 yards apart in a sort-of line.

Then you get 4 randomly selected players off the team to line up inside the cones on their stomaches.

Then you get a player to be the running back and he starts off by running as fast as possible at the players who are lined up in the cones.

When the running back comes within range, they immediately jump up and attempt to tackle the player, and if they fail, then next person tries and so on.

If nobody gets the running back down, then he has passed the drill and then a new running back is picked as well as 4 new linebackers.

Coaching Points: Hit low because the running back is coming at you at full speed when you are laying down, and it's hard to gain enough momentum to tackle them up high.... just simply go for the legs.
