Football Drills Wide Receiver Short Speed Drills
Football Drills Wide Receiver Short Speed Drills
Objective of Football Drill: To break away on the short game of a defender while playing receiver - It should help build stamina.
Action of Football Drill: When the ball is snapped, look at the defender and which way he is
lined up. If he is deep you have a better chance of beating him. Make 3 sudden
cuts to the right, left, and then a fake to the right, and pull left with all
your intensity and speed to break away. Stay in front of the defender the whole
way, and use the stiff arm to break a tackle and you should get an easy 15+
yards on the play. Keep doing this and use a real quarterback, not a cone as the
thrower lines up at the slot, and the primary, go in motion and keep doing this
and it will build your stamina as a receiver. Do not stop doing this until 20
minutes has passed and you should get an effective work out. Run different
routes such as slants and inside routes across the middle.
Coaching Points: Watch the feet of the receiver. Make sure that the wide-out uses
quick bursts off the ball and good "juking" techniques, such as the shoulder fake
and the head bob. Also shifting the feet and leaning the body while exploding off
the last fake to break away from the defender.
