Actually, I have a question for your readers...

Football Tips

I have been coaching a high school football team for nine years.

We run the 3-5 defense.

It is basically a 3-3 stack with two Bandits (strong safety types) on the outside.

Every now and then, we have some trouble stopping the Wing T.

Using our defensive scheme, what are some tips on defending this offense?

I'm hoping that someone will respond to this post and give me some good answers/tips!!!!!

Thanks...

Stopping Wing T
by: Coach Pappy

Coach,

We have been fortunate enough to have been in the playoffs eight straight years now and over the years have used 4 and 5 man fronts until this past season when we went to the 3-5 simply because we had less size and a little more speed.

As D co-ordinator I was a little ansy since our competitive level is tough and we do face the winged T with all its miss direction.

To make a long story short, we love the 3-5, had a great D year and a lot of success VS the winged T.especially with our blitz packages

One of the most successful lineups we put up or stemed into was what we call a "tough, nose gap " ----- Both D ends on 3 technique, our nose in the "a" gap toward or away from the wing and our middle LB covering the opposite "a" gap. our other inside LBers played 50's ( outside shoulder of O tackles ) and our Dogs ( outside LBers ) outside the TE or spliting the difference with the corner outside the wing. --- hope this makes sense for you and helps ---- if you need to contact e-mail papnjoan@ yahoo.com Good Luck.
