August 1, 2006 23:14 - Reggie Bush Is Worth Top $ / Michael Bennett Traded To KC

Well, I guess I was wrong. Reggie Bush will indeed get paid about what a No. 1 pick is worth. Good for you, Reggie, now I can look forward to watching you this fall play this great game we all love. Let's forget about the contract B.S. until next year!

Training camp is underway. Finally, we get to get into the playing of the game!

Reggie Bush affected more than just the ire of all of us fed up with the current NFL pay scale system. He also helped to make Michael Bennett expendable in New Orleans.

It looks like the Kansas City Chiefs have traded for Bennett to back up Larry Johnson since Priest Holmes' season looks uncertain.

According to ESPN.com - "The absence of Holmes, and the possibility that he might be forced to retire because of head and neck injuries sustained last season, left the Chiefs perilously thin at the position.

Several teams inquired about Bennett and, in the past week, the St. Louis Rams -- who will be without Marshall Faulk for all of the 2006 season -- offered the Saints a fourth-round pick in next year's draft."

New Orleans didn't want to trade Bennett to an NFC team so he'll get a chance to play in Kansas City.

August 8, 2006 22:20 - Let the Games Begin!

The National Football League Pre-Season got underway on Sunday night. Of course, we only got to see about a half quarter's worth of the starters. Which leads me to the whole controversy surrounding playing 4 pre-season games, but I'll leave that to another time.

For now, I'm just excited, as I'm sure you are, that we're getting into that time of year when we get to enjoy all the great youth, high school, college and NFL games that are just around the corner.

There's something magical about the beginning of the football season. It always brings me back to when I was kid, going to my town's youth football tryouts and then camp and then the regular season.

The smell of the football field. The excitement of a new season. Meeting new teammates and making new friends.

Putting on that uniform and going out to play the game I love so much. Let the games begin!

August 15, 2006 22:22 - Leinart Signed and Ready to Roll

I'm not going to rant and rave about Matt Leinart holding out. It's good to just see him finally get signed so we can get a chance to see how he fares in the National Football League.

It was amusing to see Denny Green's comments yesterday regarding how upset he was that Leinart wasn't signed yet. Of course, he clarified his statements after the signing, saying:

"I wasn't angry. I was excitable," he said. "I just felt we wanted him to get here and help us win and help him become a good football player. That's really my job as a coach, to create an atmosphere where guys can develop as a player. It's hard to do that if the player's not here."

Anyway, Leinart is signed and it looks like we're going to see him for the first time this weekend against the Patriots. Here's Leinart's take on that:

"My dream has been to play in the NFL," he said. "What better way to kick off an NFL career -- whether it's one play or a couple of series -- than against the Patriots."

I actually think Matt Leinart is a pretty good kid, but has gotten a bad rap here and there. I guess we'll know if I'm right in a couple of years after he has a chance to impress or not.
